{"id":13746,"date":"2025-08-28T19:46:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T19:46:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/?p=13746"},"modified":"2025-09-29T15:23:55","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T15:23:55","slug":"in-hungry-for-hope-young-adults-address-the-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/2025\/08\/28\/in-hungry-for-hope-young-adults-address-the-church\/","title":{"rendered":"In \u2018Hungry for Hope,\u2019  young adults address the church"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/08\/Covers-Elements.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11924 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/08\/Covers-Elements-240x300.png\" alt=\"Hungry for Hope book cover\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>August 28 is publication day for a new book that shares the wisdom, dreams, and frustrations of young adults with the church. <a href=\"https:\/\/hungryforhopebook.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cHungry for Hope: Letters to the Church From Young Adults,\u201d<\/span><\/a> a project of 91³ΙΘΛ\u2019s Riverside Innovation Hub, speaks to the most pressing issues of our time, from climate catastrophe to mental health, and calls faith communities to shape a more just future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Young adult authors from across the U.S. were paired with a scholar or thought leader on each of eleven themes, which form the book\u2019s chapters:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">courageous curiosity<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">tokenism of young adults<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">destruction and re-creation<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">grief and lament<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">mental health<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">abuse of power<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">marginalization, inclusion, and liberation<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">sex, shame, and intimacy<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">community<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">beyond the walls<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">scarcity and abundance<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Each chapter provides practical guidance for congregations, theological educators, church leaders, and student groups looking for fresh ways to connect faith and action in ways that matter deeply to young people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFor those of us who care deeply about the future of our faith communities, Hungry for Hope is a remarkable gift,\u201d said Augsburg President Paul Pribbenow. \u201cWith its chapters co-written by young adults and their mentors, these reflections invite all of us into a conversation about our most pressing challenges as people of faith committed to being God\u2019s hands and feet in the world now and into the future. We must pay attention to these prophetic voices.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHungry for Hope\u201d was edited by Jeremy Myers, Bernhard M. Christensen professor of religion and vocation and executive director of the Christensen Center for Vocation, and Kristina Frug\u00e9, director of congregational and community initiatives at the Riverside Innovation Hub.
