Doctor of Nursing Practice – Transcultural Nursing (TCN) Leadership Track
The Transcultural Nursing Leadership track is now open to US students who have completed their BSN. The program has an emphasis on transcultural nursing leadership. The courses prepare nurses for advanced leadership and practice roles in transcultural nursing.
Program Structure
Bachelor’s in Nursing Entry: Application into the program may begin with a bachelor’s degree in nursing or while in the master’s in nursing program at Augsburg or the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Augsburg. This pathway completes all master’s required courses (See MAN degree listing) except NUR523 (3 credits), NUR523P (2 credits), NUR525 (3 credits), and NUR525P (1 credit). Students do not earn a master’s degree but instead continue directly into the DNP-TCN program. Six credits of electives are earned from transferred FNP credits, or from the MBA Courses MBA 550/MBA 583/MBA 595/MBA 596 or by taking any Master of Arts in Leadership course (except ML585, ML598, or ML599). The program is structured in a cohort model with students choosing to take full or part-time study once taking DNP courses. Completion time depends upon the level of entry. Students will complete 18 didactic and 6 practicum credits from the master’s curriculum, six elective credits and 20 didactic, 4 seminar credits and 17 experiential practicum credits with a DNP project completing the degree.
As a practice doctorate, the emphasis is on building leadership and practice skills in knowledge application among diverse population groups. The goal is to improve health and decrease health inequities that lead to unnecessary morbidity and mortality in communities. Students graduating from the DNP-TCN track are eligible to apply to the Transcultural Nursing Certification Commission (TCNCC) for advanced certification in Transcultural Nursing.
